About eLera

eLera is a distributed group that researches and evaluates e-learning. Our specific interests include learning objects, e-portfolios, and learning design specifications, and related topics. The goals of eLera are to:

  • improve the quality of online learning resources through better design and evaluation

  • develop effective pedagogical models that incorporate learning objects

  • help students, teachers, professors, instructional designers and others to select pedagogical models and digital resources that meet their requirements

eLera provides tools and information for learning object evaluation and research, maintains a database of learning object reviews, and supports communication and collaboration among researchers, evaluators and users of online learning resources.

How can I use the eLera website?

You can search or browse the database for learning objects, reviews and members. After joining eLera as a member, you can create reviews using the Learning Object Review Instrument (LORI). Experienced members can moderate collaborative evaluations.

How does eLera relate to POOL?

POOL (Portals for Online Objects in Learning) is a distributed repository of learning object metadata based on peer-to-peer technology. POOL users can create and share metadata using Splash, a freely available client. We are planning to establish eLera as an evaluation node on the POOL network by exchanging metadata with Splash, and maintaining a Splash-accessible database of learning object reviews.

How does eLera relate to eduSourceCanada?

eLera is a member of eduSourceCanada, a network of interoperable Canadian repositories funded by Canarie and other sources. The eduSourceCanada repositories conform to the CanCore metadata guidelines.

Does eLera conform to metadata standards?

eLera complies with the IEEE learning object metadata standards as interpreted by the CanCore guidelines.
